Grandma’s Easy Cable Toque with East Fresian Yarn

My grandmother (now in her mid 90s) has always been a avid knitter and I have many items that she has knit for me from child to adult-hood. So as soon as we got our own wool spun into yarn, I brought some to her and asked her to knit me something. She knit up this amazing cable toque (without a pattern of course)

My talented mom (#holyhannaart) studied it and created a written pattern. The only difference - she added a real coyote fir pom-pom.

Our East Fresian yarn has a lovely stretch, making the hat fit snug and warm on a variety of head sizes, and it also boosts good structure, making the cable look clean and neat even if you are a beginner knitter.

It's a fairly quick and easy project and a good introduction to cable if you've never tried it before. If you have knit an easy hat before, this would be a good second or third one.

Our Cable Toque DIY kits include one skein of East Fresian yarn, a real coyote-fir pom-pom, and my grandmother's original cable toque pattern. (Of course if you prefer the woolen pom-pom, you can use the coyote fir for something else.) The only items you will need are 16-inch circular 6 mm needles and also 6 mm DPNs.

This toque makes an amazing gift. But if you're like me, you'll probably just want to keep it!
