Our Hand-stitched Wool Duvets

Wool blankets have been used in our family for generations. Quilted by hand, and filled with wool from our sheep, we use the same pattern that was passed on from our grandmothers. Hypo-allergenic, wool naturally repels dirt, dust, odor, and mold. Wool boasts a warmth in the winter and regulates temperature in the summer.

Our blankets have comforting weight, yet are very breathable. We cover our wool in washed unbleached cotton. Very durable, they will be an investment that will last you for many years.

FAQs

How should I care for a wool duvet?

Because of wool’s amazing natural properties, it does stay remarkably clean odour free on it’s own. Wool literally repels dust, odour, and mold.

However, when your duvet does need to be refreshed, it can be exposed to sun and fresh air. Hang outside on a line and the wool naturally deodorizes and freshens itself. We usually do this twice a year - in the spring and fall.

It is also important to protect your comforter with a cover, one that can be removed and washed.

Accidents do happen, and if you need to, you may spot clean the duvet with some biodegradable soap or vinegar. Then hang it several days in fresh air to dry.

Can I wash it in the washing machine?

No! The agitation will cause the wool to shrink and felt together. Washing the entire comforter can be done in an emergency, but it needs to be done extremely carefully with absolutely no agitation at all. We do not usually recommend this, but if you are very careful, you can wash the entire blanket in some cool water and mild soap, and hang to dry. Contact for detailed instructions.

How long will the blanket last?

Usually after about 25 years, our grandmothers would open the blankets up, re-card the wool (to fluff it up), and cover it with new cotton. The wool will last you your lifetime. The cotton will tend to wear out first. (25-30 years) We’ve met people who had 60 to 90 year old blankets.

Can you make a custom size?

Yes, absolutely, just send us the measurements.

Are they very hot?

Wool has an amazing way of regulating temperature. We use the duvets all year round and find they are warm in winter and not too hot in summer. Of course, if you tend to sleep really warm, you may not want to use them in summer.

Can you make me an extra heavy blanket for winter use?

Yes, we can. Our blankets are considered all-season weight. If you like a heavy one, we can simply add another pound or two of wool, for a slightly extra charge.

Are the blankets filled with your wool?

Yes they are! The sheep have been raised on our farm and cared for by us. We practice regenerative agriculture principles and so the sheep grazing our pastures is an important part of caring for our land and improving soil health. It’s pretty special wool!

I want to buy a blanket for my child. Could we come visit the sheep to better connect to the source?

That might be a possibility during some seasons. Send us a message to inquire! You also might be interested in coming for half a day to make the duvet with us. That is an option at check-out!

Is the blanket Organic?

Our wool is raised on a regenerative farm with organic principles. It takes no chemicals to raise the wool and it is not processed with any chemicals either. That said, we are not certified organic. We can use Organic cotton to cover the duvet on request, but that will be for an additional charge. (Usually $75 to $90 extra)
